Recognizing ADHD & Its Symptoms

Trouble listening, procrastination, and forgetfulness are among the symptoms our mental health providers assess for. That assessment is what puts you in a position to decide whether an ADHD medication is an appropriate solution.

Whatever shape your symptoms of ADHD take, getting you the treatment you need is what our providers are here for.

What Are ADHD's Main Symptoms?

Symptom #1

Are you often inattentive, losing track of where you set down your keys, purse, wallet, or other valuables? That can be a sign of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Symptom #2

Does procrastination get the better of you? Do you hold off until the last possible minute and then scramble to finish? That is often a sign of ADHD, and it is a big part of why healthcare for ADHD is vital.

Symptom #3

Do you sometimes find it hard to stay focused on what someone is telling you? Inattentiveness is frustrating to live with, but it is actually pretty common with ADHD.

ADHD Treatment Plans Built Around You

Is ADHD making it hard for you to focus?

Does that spill over into your work, your schooling, and your personal life week after week?

Our ADHD program at Vancouver Direct Primary Care in Portland is built to fit you. Getting the ADHD care you need should not turn into a headache of its own.

So we built the program around straightforward diagnosis, convenient follow-up visits, and medication refills. Most of it can be handled remotely.

When ADHD is weighing on you, VDPC in Portland is your home to be heard, feel accepted, and experience compassionate care.

None of the hassle.

ADHD Criteria (Only 5 Are Needed):

Is There a Test That Shows Whether You Have ADHD?

Our clinicians at Vancouver Direct Primary Care in Portland assess your symptoms against the DSM V criteria.

ADHD testing opens with two short questionnaires that gauge how severe your ADHD symptoms are, along with the subtypes of hyperactivity and inattentive. A detailed discussion of how ADHD affects your day to day life follows from there.

Will Insurance Cover the Cost of ADHD Testing?

An FSA or an HSA can often be put toward the costs of testing. If you have neither one but do have insurance, we can use that insurance for the medications prescribed as treatment, depending on your plan. And if you have no insurance at all, we keep our prices intentionally low so the testing and treatment you need stay within reach.

When to Seek an ADHD Evaluation

Consider an ADHD evaluation and treatment if any of the following affect you: procrastination, fidgeting, inattentiveness, trouble listening, difficulty with staying on task, disorganization, often losing things, and forgetfulness. Any of these can mean you have ADHD.

Our clinicians at Vancouver Direct Primary Care in Portland want to see ADHD patients succeed at work, at home, and in life. Being evaluated and treated is pivotal to that.

Why Choose VDPC in Portland for ADHD Treatment

Vancouver Direct Primary Care in Portland is a membership-based clinic. Membership works the way a gym membership does. You pay monthly.

That model is what lets us limit the number of patients each provider carries. The result is thorough, thoughtful care rooted in our values of being heard, feeling accepted, and receiving compassionate care.

Common Questions About ADHD

Start by enrolling at Vancouver Direct Primary Care in Portland. Our clinicians then use screening tools to determine whether you meet the DSM V diagnostic criteria.

ADHD has eight core symptoms: procrastination, inattentiveness, forgetfulness, trouble listening, fidgeting, lack of attention to details, losing things, and being easily distracted.

We recommend being evaluated for ADHD by a professional clinician at Vancouver Direct Primary Care in Portland. That clinician is then able to treat your ADHD if needed.

We Want You to Feel Better

We went into medicine for one reason. We wanted to help people feel better. That is the heartbeat of this practice and it is what keeps us going. It is why we gave up decades to school, and more nights, weekends, and holidays than we can count, learning how to do it well.

What we learned along the way turned out to be simple. People start feeling better once they are heard, once they feel accepted, and once they experience compassionate care. That is our heart and soul, and it is the root of our ADHD program.

Enroll at Vancouver Direct Primary Care in Portland and you will be cared for by a provider who wants you to feel better, inside a practice built to deliver exactly that.

What happens after you enroll:

1. Once you enroll, we get you scheduled for your First Time Office Visit, usually a 60-90 minute appointment. Ahead of that visit we will have you fill out some forms that help us determine whether you have ADHD and which type it may be.

2. That first appointment is a thorough one. We go through your allergies, past medical history, past surgical history, medications, family history, and current medical issues, then do a physical exam, check your blood pressure, and follow up on anything else that comes up. Whatever treatment we end up pursuing, we want to know it is safe for you.

3. Next comes the treatment plan. If you are already on ADHD medications, we often continue your current treatment unless something concerns us. If you have been on them in the past, that history informs our decision making. And if you have never been on ADHD treatment, we will talk it through and set our treatment goals together to determine which plan would be best for you.

4. For medication treatment, we write one month prescriptions when starting out. That gives us plenty of time to see how you respond to each dose. Our goal with medication treatment is the minimal dose required, so that we can help you build the systems that produce the best results. We strongly recommend ADHD therapy, or even ADHD coaching, as a complement to medication treatment. A quick search will turn up local therapists and coaches for ADHD to complement your treatment.

5. From there we fine tune.

We hope to meet you soon!
