Vancouver Direct Primary Care’s Groundbreaking Wellness Initiative in Esther Short Park

When the days stretched out and the weather finally turned, Vancouver Direct Primary Care launched its Wellness in the Park initiative to get the community moving. Starting in the summer of 2023, a run of family-friendly wellness events took place in Esther Short Park in Vancouver, WA, right alongside the Farmers Market. Attendees could try a range of fitness activities, hear from health professionals, and meet local businesses, all free and open to anyone who turned up.

Fitness, health services, and the Wellness Fair were the three pillars of Vancouver Direct Primary Care’s Wellness in the Park program. Here is what each one involved.

Physical Activity for Every Age and Ability

Classes were open to all ages and skill levels, made possible by the clinic working alongside local gyms and health-focused businesses.

People picked whatever matched their interests and current fitness, from gentler sessions such as yoga and Pilates through to high-intensity interval training and dance-based workouts. With sessions running through the day, there was always something to join.

Face to Face Time With Wellness Practitioners

Chiropractors, massage therapists, naturopaths, and homeopathic practitioners set up on site. Attendees could talk with them one to one, ask real questions about what they offer, and make decisions about their own health with better information than a search engine provides.

Local Businesses, Employees, and Families Together

The Wellness Fair gave employers a way to bring staff and their families out for a day of activity and time together. It was built to strengthen the connection between local companies and the people who work for them.

Participating employers ran health fairs, seminars, and team-building activities, which is a considerably better way to show you care about employee well-being than a memo. The relaxed, family-friendly setting did most of the work.

A Summer Built Around Getting Healthy

For that season Esther Short Park became a hub of health and fitness. Families spent weekends in fitness classes, learning about complementary health services, and meeting local businesses in an easy, unhurried atmosphere. Vancouver Direct Primary Care‘s approach to wellness aimed at the whole picture rather than one slice of it, and the events reflected that.

The point of an initiative like this is not a single weekend. It is meeting people who care about the same things, supporting businesses in your own community, and building a culture of wellness that outlasts the summer it started in.

Vancouver Direct Primary Care‘s Wellness in the Park initiative was a genuine highlight of that season, and a good reminder of what a clinic and a community can do together.
